Who attends these classes?
The demographics can very a bit, depending on the host organization and topic, but I've found most of the attendees range in age from their mid-20's to mid-60's. Unless specified, all classes are age 18 and over. I've found all genders and orientations are represented among those in attendance with an even number of the genders. Many singles come as well as couples.
What can I expect to experience at these classes?
This depends on the type of class and subject covered. Most of the classes are seminar format where you sit in a class, watch, listen and enjoy. Some classes are hands-on practice where the students get to learn new skills and practice them in a safe and comfortable environment.
Here's an example of what one of my classes is like.
Do I have to participate in sexual activities?
Well that depends on your definition of sexual activities. For example, during the "JoyStick Secrets: How to Please a Man" class, you'll be asked to stroke a cucumber. During "Hands-on Rope Bondage" you'll be asked to tie your exercise partner's wrists. Many of my classes are lecture based. During these classes, all you need to do is sit back and listen.
Sometimes I have the pleasure of teaching at a couples' retreat or specifically sensual events, such as the adult resort of Hedonism. In these situations the classes for couples and lovers maybe more sensually focused. This will be spelled out clearly in the description. And you're never required to do anything you're not comfortable with.
What do I wear? What do people wear?
Unless other wise specified, any comfortable street wear is just fine. Many people come directly from work, school or dinner, wearing their day-wear. Sometimes, for specific classes I will specify that you be in comfortable moveable clothing.
Will my privacy be respected?
Absolutely! No photography is allowed during class for this very reason. I want to make sure that the learning environment is emotionally and physically safe and fun.
How long do the classes last?
Most classes are 2 hours long, except when otherwise noted, such as the Weekend Intensives.
How much does it cost?
The cost of each class is usually dictated by the host organization or event, so it varies. Take a look at the details posted in the Calendar or the event's web site.
Do I need to bring a partner with me?
Usually no. If you do need to bring your partner with you, the class and event description will specify this. For some classes you'll want your sweetie or an intimate friend with you. For other classes it can be a good pal. In either case, it'll be specified in the class description.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
For most classes all you'll need to bring is your entheusiastic self and something to take notes with. For some classes there might be some equipment you'll need to bring with you, such as ropes or pillows or flogger, but that will always be spelled out in the class and event description
What if I'm not sure if I like the activity covered?(ie. I don't know if I like anal sex/bondage/etc.Why should I take the class?)
A class is just the perfect place for you if you're not sure about a new sex skill! Listening and watching about a topic is a much safer and easier way to consider if an activity is something you want to try. It can be awkward or difficult for some to introduce or discuss a new adventure during love-making. It's much easier to talk about it after a class with your sweetie. If it turns out you like it, great. If it turns out it's not your cup of tea, you're not putting a damper on a good sex night.
Are the classes age restricted? 21+? 18+? Any?
Most classes are for people 18 years and older, unless specified by the organization or host venue.
Are the classes attended by mostly men or women?
Are they limited to men or women? Gender restricted?
Most classes are open to all genders. We've found that with open invitation classes the gender distribution is pretty even. Sometimes the classes are restricted to a certain gender. This is usually because I'm presenting to an organization for a particular gender (for example, the Gay Men's SM Activist group, the Campus Women's Club or the Trans Association.) – or an event wishes to create a special space for a particular gender to facilitate quality discussions.
Are transmen, transwomen and intersexed people welcome?
Absolutely! If there are any questions, please drop a query to the event organizer or us.
How can be a class demonstration volunteer?
For some classes I need a person to help with demonstrations. Usually the event organizer is responsible for coordinating this, so please drop them a note. For some class demos there are sepcific pre-requsites or qualifications. In such a situation I may put out a call for a qualified person on my online student lounge , newsletter or blogs
